Panther City Wins OT Stunner in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA  (March 10, 2024) – The Panther City Lacrosse Club (6-6) defeated the Philadelphia Wings (4-7) in thrilling fashion on Sunday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center, 9-8 in overtime. Phil Caputo netted the game winner 4:31 into the extra session after a hectic pace to begin the overtime. Panther City goalie Nick Damude rebounded in a massive way and was the player of the game for PCLC, as he saved 48 of the 56 shots he faced on the afternoon (.857 SV %), including stopping three shots in OT. This was Panther City’s second overtime win this year.

Will Malcom led Panther City with three goals and also added five assists for an eight-point evening. With his eight points tonight, Malcom now has 72 points on the season and leads PCLC in points and assists (45). Jonathan Donville also recorded eight points (2G/6A) to tie his season high point total. His six assists were one shy of his season high of seven assists (1/27/24 at LV). Ryan Sheridan chipped in with three points (2G/1A).

Defensively, transition player Josh Medeiros led the club with nine loose balls. Fellow transition player Tony Malcom finished with eight loose balls. The defensive unit as a whole caused six turnovers on the evening. In his first appearance of the 2023-24 season, defenseman Tyler Burton was inserted into the lineup after spending the first 14 weeks on the Injured Reserve List and made his presence immediately felt, as he recorded six loose balls, won 12-21 face-off attempts and limited Philadelphia’s star forward Mitch Jones to a single assist. Jones did not register a point in the game until the final 40 seconds.

Panther City will again return to the East Coast as they face off against the Halifax Thunderbirds for the first time in franchise history on Friday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. CT.
